Paddleboarding

Paddleboarding is a surface water sport in which the participant is propelled by a swimming motion from a paddle on a long surfboard close to the shore. It is also currently the fastest growing sport in the country, most likely from the fact that almost anyone can participate; considering that the sport can be done leisurely or rigorously depending on your capabilities. What most people don’t know is that paddleboarding has actually been around since the 1930’s.

The sport benefits athletes with a strong ‘core’ workout. Balance is the largest factor at excelling on the board. Another benefit of the exercise is being in or around salt water. Salt has been shown to draw toxins and dirt out of the skin. The benefits of the sun also increase endorphins in your brain resulting in increased happiness and satisfaction (just remember to use sunscreen to protect your skin!). Sweating also cleanses the body and mind, and having the water right under you to cool off is the added benefit! Fitness centers have even started incorporating SUP (stand up paddleboarding) into their options for members. The best time of day for the sport is early in the morning while the surf tends to be calmer.
